Best Ways to Deliver Health Information
It's important that the health profession finds the best ways to deliver health information so that members of the public can be better informed and take more responsibility for their own health.
A better informed public is a public which stands a much better chance of keeping themselves healthy, so what is the best way to deliver health information, how do you get the message across without either causing national panic or, at the other end of the scale, simply be ignored.
Health Information For the Public
There are loads of things which we can all do to keep ourselves healthier and make sure that we don't put even more strain on an already struggling health care system. People are living longer for a start off, which means that hospitals and health care centers are already overstretched. In the United States there are simply not enough doctors and nurses, not enough hospitals and not enough medical centers.
To make matters worse, there are not enough places at medical schools and universities to train anywhere near the number of staff that the country will need in the future. So what's the answer? Well, one answer is to get out more information for the public to take responsibility for their health themselves. There are certain things which have been proven to contribute to many of the major diseases and killers of people today:
- Obesity - this is a major problem. Apart from the obvious problems of obesity caused by breathlessness and low self esteem, it is also a major contributor to problems like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Even some types of cancer can be linked to obesity - eat less and move more, and make sure that you keep your kid healthy and active to avoid problems in the future
- Smoking - the many problems associated with smoking tobacco have been well documented over the years, but there are still thousands of people who do it, even though they're not allowed to 'do it' in many public places.
- Alcohol - the dangers of drinking too much alcohol is also a major problem which puts many people in hospital, either directly or indirectly (from falling over when drunk)
Caring for pets is also become a hot issue in the medical world. Even pets now have pet health insurance to help them care for their pets without having high bills too. From dog insurance to cat insurance, gathering as much health information as possible will reduce the risks to your pet's health.
So how do we get this information out to the public? There have been plenty of government initiatives over the years, posters, advertisements, education programs in schools and also television programs. The main problem is the 'it won't happen to me' syndrome, 'it only happens to other people'. Well, it could happen to any one of us, so it's time we all started to take better care and took some of the responsibility for ourselves.
